When to pack your hospital bag.
It is important to have your hospital bag ready by week 36 or 37 of pregnancy, just incase the baby comes earlier before the due date. Once you have everything packed, put your bag where it can be easily reached.
We asked Double-M BabyShop parents what their must have items were and also drew from our own child birth experiences to come up with this extensive list of essentials.
Mom’s Hospital Bag.
Start by packing your bag. Here is a list of what you need to pack in your hospital bag.


- ID, Birth plan and Insurance card.
- Comfortable clothes. Avoid clothes that are restrictive and keep in mind a few options incase of a C-Section. Have several nightdresses, comfortable pajama sets or t-shirts and a rob.
- Slippers. Slipper socks are great for keeping cozy. Bring slipper shoes like Crocs incase your feet swell from IV fluids.
- Maternity Pads.
- Nursing bra.
- Leso.
- Toiletries. That is; tissue, toothbrush, lip balm, body lotion, hair ties, deodorant and wet wipes.
- Comfortable Pillow.
- Towel.
- Snacks and soft drinks to keep your energy levels up.
- Mobile phone and charger.
- Bluetooth speaker or earphones to listen to your favorite music.
Baby’s Hospital Bag.
Once your bag is packed, move on to the baby’s essentials.


- Baby cloth sets. You can carry a baby receiving set with you. Buy here. Most people stay 2-3 days in hospital. Ensure that you have cloths that the baby can wear in hospital and also on their way home. The outfit should be loose and comfortable.
- Baby blanket.
- Baby shawl/Swaddle.
- Bodysuits.
- Socks.
- Baby caps.
- Mittens.
- Baby oils, wipes and diapers.
- A car seat incase you are driving home from hospital.
Support Partner’s Bag.
If you have a partner or support partner staying in the hospital with you, they should pack;
- Clothes.
- Toiletries.
- Phone, earphones and charger.
- Snacks and Soft drinks.
- A lightweight sleeping bag and pillow.
